Bradshaw Gass & Hope LLP with Maurice Shapero are winners in the coveted Manchester Society of Architects Awards 2012 held at Cube in Manchester on the 17th May 2012. The Awards recognise excellence in architectural design and building. They have won two awards; Best Commercial Building and the ultimate prize of Building of the Year 2012 for their design for a Youth Intervention Centre for charitable trust 42nd Street in Manchester.

The Youth Intervention Centre is in the heart of the Ancoats area of Manchester and responds to the historic industrial grid of this part of the City.

The Youth Intervention Centre is an open door facility where young people between the ages of 19 to 25 can come for advice and help.  The Centre provides administrative accommodation for the staff as well as social spaces and one to one counseling areas.  The designs success was due to a collaborative effort from all team members and the Clients desire to create a building that expressed the particular issues they deal with daily in the local community.

The Centre was one of over 50 entries in this year’s competition and was competing against some of the countries most significant and respected design Practices.   The Manchester Society of Architects judging panel recognised the originality and inventiveness of the design and was unanimous in its decision to award the Building of the Year 2012 to the project.

All the projects entered into the Awards were of exceptional quality and is a testament to the quality of design being delivered in Greater Manchester.  All those who entered should be commended on the skill and effort undertaken.

David Hamer, Partner at Bradshaw Gass & Hope LLP said “the collaboration and cooperation between all parties involved with the project contributed to the buildings success.  Good building design comes from a passionate approach and a deep understanding of the Clients needs”.  Bradshaw Gass & Hope LLP have a new vigor to develop architecture of outstanding quality in the North West and beyond and are looking for Clients that have this same vision.

The judging panel led by Ewen Miller, President of the MSA described the design as “an entertaining and popular choice making a truly positive contribution to the local community”.
