Located in Bury town centre, the Bury Art Gallery and Museum houses a local history museum which was opened in 1907. It is now a grade II listed building and regarded as the finest building in the town. The museum is situation on the lower ground floor.
Bury MBC seeks to establish a fully integrated museum and Archive Centre where visitors can access the areas heritage through museum displays and documentary analysis. At present Bury Museum and Bury Archives are separate entities.
The project has three main elements.
The merger of the Bury Archive Service with Bury Museum Service in the lower ground floor of Bury Art Gallery and Library. The Establishment of combined archive/museum displays and a manuscript/object learning centre. The provision of full physical access throughout Bury Art Gallery and Museum, especially regarding the museum and archive centre.
The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
